More and more people are moving to the big cities, and in 20 years, it is estimated that many more people will both live in and commute to Gothenburg. The problem is that Gothenburg Central Station has reached its capacity ceiling and cannot accommodate more trains during the busiest parts of the day.
The is where the West Link comes in. The future eight kilometer long railway line for regional and commuter trains will, when completed in 2026, enable 100 000 residents and 130 000 workers will be within walking and cycling distance of a commuter train station in central Gothenburg.
This will allow many more people to commute in a more environmentally friendly way – in less time.
The West Link will have three new underground stations: Centralen, Korsvägen and Haga. It will also help to increase train capacity in Gothenburg, while improving commuting possibilities and thus helping to develop the labor market region around the city.
Heavy Lyft transports
We at Tunga Lyft are proud to help with this important work. Our task is to help NCC transport reinforcement baskets from the manufacturing site to the installation site. And as usual when we’re on the road, these are not mini baskets, but 26 meters long, 6 meters wide and weighing almost 30 tons. That you.
So, thanks to the reinforcement of the train capacity with a tunnel underground instead of expanding above ground, land can be freed up for more green space, housing and jobs. City traffic will ease and the areas around the new stations will be developed as attractive environments to live in stay in. Gothenburg will simply be an even better city!
