If you’ve been passing by the T-Centralen in Stockholm lately, you’ll know that the you may have noticed that some escalators around the Red and Green lines are closed. at the moment?
This is because several escalators here will be dismantled and replaced by new ones. A fourth escalator is also being installed in a couple of places where there were previously only three, increasing capacity by 25%.
The environment in T-Centralen is a bit more complex compared to the rest of Stockholm, as it is the busiest station in the city. All metro lines meet here, and more than 300 000 people travel here daily. So there are many elements that must work.
This makes T-Centralen the most difficult place to change escalators, as it is always busy with people and we are working with small margins. Each escalator weighs between 60 and 70 tons – very heavy weights to be transported through narrow spaces.
We are proud specialists in escalators.
Fortunately, we at Tunga Lyft are specialists in carrying out this work without affecting the environment and society. We offer effective and functional solutions for each unique design, and can proudly call ourselves number one in escalator replacement. So we are very pleased to have been entrusted with the replacement of most of the escalators in T-Centralen.
There are five people working at T-Centralen and each escalator takes about three nights to replace. They are removed and transported down on rails that we have installed on each side of the escalator.
Our hydraulic pump is the heart of the whole operation, pulling down all parts of the escalator using cables. Once the escalators are dismantled, they are put on a train through the metro for further transportation to the recycling facility.
Have you ever wondered what an escalator looks like from below? Of course, everyone has!
It’s a cool machine, built by many big and strong people. components that are not externally visible. If we lift the panels and look underneath, we can see the big machines that live their own life underground. Watch the movie and get you see!
