Replacement of engine block on 28/38 tons

The engine block on Stena Danica needs to be replaced due to. a damage that cannot be repaired.

The engine block requires a 7x3m hole to be made in the car deck as the four main engines were fitted when the ferry was built. The 28-ton block that was damaged was lifted with our 125-ton hydraulic jack, which for this job was rigged with four compressed air columns. When we lifted the cut tire, we could start lifting out the old block.

The new block was delivered with the crankshaft installed, so the weight increased to 38 tons when it went to its new location. All that remains is to put the lid on so that the cars don’t end up down in the engine room.

The ferry was only docked from Sunday evening and back in service on Wednesday morning.
