The railway bridge over the E18 in Västerås is being replaced. In the fall of 2018, the railway bridge for one track was demolished, and now work is in full swing! to build the new one.
The bridge is part of the Mälarbanan and is located about 1 km north of Västerås Central towards Stockholm. It is a double track line and one is closed to replace that part of the bridge, while train traffic can pass on the other track at the same time.
We know about bridge lowering
The new bridge is currently being poured, and once the concrete has hardened, the the mold is demolished and then lowered into place.
Tunga Lyft has been tasked with lowering the 950-ton new bridge and launching it about 2 meters to the side. This is because, for safety reasons, it must not be too close to the other adjacent bridge, as it is an electrically powered railway bridge.
We use a hydraulic crane system that lifts the bridge so that as straight as possible, as otherwise some part may fall behind which could lead to cause the bridge to crack.
The bridge is being replaced to accommodate heavier traffic. The route is an important transportation route for steel, timber and transformers, but the heavier transports are currently routed via other routes. However, when completed in 2020, this bridge should also be able to handle heavier traffic.
So we at Heavy Lift help heavy bridges to handle even heavier loads. Heavy.
