A full house at the test draw!

The Central Bridge is part of one of Sweden’s most important railway lines and has seen a huge number of trains pass through it since its opening in 1967.

The bridge is 1225 meters long and 21 meters wide. It got its name because the original idea was that it would be located between Västerbron and a planned Österbro, which despite many different proposals has yet to materialize.

The entire so-called ‘wasp waist’ is now being refurbished, including adding more concrete and strengthening the pillars in Riddarfjärden. We were therefore asked to test the bars so that the Swedish Transport Administration knows that they are in place. We use hydraulic jacks and a lot of bars.

To do this, we had to stand in a bridge box emptied of water, with train traffic roaring over our heads. So hearing protection was our friend.

A Heavy Lifter involved in the work contributed the following poem:
“When the rest of Stockholm is basking in the sun, the heavy lifting of developing Stockholm’s infrastructure is both wet and dry.”

Perhaps proving that we are better at hard work than poetry, but still a great message!
