We lift the world’s biggest machines!

There are machines, big machines and really big machines. Many of us are impressed when we see these giant machines that, despite their size, efficiently and safely perform different types of work.
These range from huge forestry machines for logging and giant excavators to bucket wheel excavators used for open pit mining.

The machines that mine lignite are among the largest vehicles in the world, and these giant machines are called XXL products. They are mainly located in the eastern part of Germany and are used to mine and transport lignite in German opencast mines. These come in different sizes, but most are very large, the largest being the Schaufelradbagger 293, which weighs an incredible 14,200 tons. It is a multi-bucket machine, with many buckets mounted on a wheel, which slowly moves forward on so-called caterpillar feet while scooping up the lignite.

Just south of Gällivare in Norrbotten is Aitik, Sweden’s largest copper mine. Around the clock, copper ore deposits containing gold, silver – and of course copper – are mined here.

Each year, about 140 tons of copper are mined in these mines, and this work requires some of the largest machines in the world. These include forklifts weighing 570 tons when loaded, with the wheel alone being four meters in diameter, and excavators holding 45 cubic meters of rock in their huge buckets.

Of course, when they have a planned maintenance stop on one of these huge machines, they call us at Tunga Lyft so we can do what we do best – lift it.
