Malmö Central – replacement of a 122-ton stop block

At the turn of the year 2010-2011 there was an accident involving an x2000 train that crashed into a stop block at Malmö C. Had it not been for the so-called 80-ton stop block (a lump of concrete), a disaster would have occurred. However, the heavy train moved this piece 20 cm and it was feared that it would crack and that the stop block would have to be replaced with a new one.

Tungalyft was contacted by Peab, which had been commissioned by the Swedish Transport Safety Agency, and began work on solving the problem inside the center.

By April 9, Peab had cast a new one outside the station and Tungalyft made the change with the new 122-ton trestle delivered at the end of 2010. We used our trolleys and a locomotive that moved the heavy piece out and the new one in. The job was done using shift work as there was limited time for train closures.
